LUNAR NEW YEAR

2026 Year of the HORSE

Lunar New Year marks the change of the Chinese Lunar Calendar Year and is celebrated with gifts, games, and a new Zodiac sign for the year. Turning in a twelve year cycle, the signs of the Zodiac celebrate different aspects and parts of personality and life.

An integral part of culture across Asia, Lunar New Year is filled with good energy and wishes to start out each new cycle with hope and generosity. Fireworks, music, and dances celebrate life and happiness, starting out each new year with good energy to last all year long.

History of Chinese Zodiac

Many thousands of years ago the Jade Emperor called on all the animals to partake in a race and see who the fastest 12 animals were. The animals all assembled and the finish line was set as a river that had to be crossed.

Although the ox came to the river first, the rat jumped on his back and then over his head to the other side making himself the first animal to cross the finish line and the ox came in second.

The tiger and the rabbit crossed next and then the dragon, who could have been first since he can fly, but he stopped to save a village from a fire along the way. The snake came next because he startled the horse who crossed the river after calming down.

Then came the sheep, the monkey, and the rooster. The dog finished next to last because he stopped to play in the river. While the pig came in last after stopping to rest and eat along the way.

This is how the order of Zodiac was chosen.
